Step 1
Opening argument
Technology exacerbates inequality as it amplifies existing disparities in access and opportunities. Wealthier individuals and nations benefit disproportionately due to their ability to invest in cutting-edge technology, education, and infrastructure. Meanwhile, underprivileged groups face barriers such as digital divide, limited access to quality online resources, and reduced competitiveness in the job market. This growing gap perpetuates a cycle where marginalized communities fall further behind, making it increasingly difficult to achieve socioeconomic equality.
Step 2
Opening argument
So if technology exacerbates inequality instead of helping people, we should get rid of it, right?
Step 3
Rebuttal
While it might seem logical to eliminate technology to avoid exacerbating inequality, it's crucial to recognize that technology also offers significant benefits and opportunities for advancement. The solution lies not in removing technology but in ensuring equitable access and emphasizing inclusive policies. By working to bridge the digital divide, providing education and resources to underprivileged communities, and fostering digital literacy, we can mitigate the negative effects and harness technology's potential to uplift everyone, rather than just a privileged few.
Step 4
Rebuttal
I simply can’t agree with this argument. If providing more technology to underprivileged communities somehow reduces inequality, the technology cannot exacerbate inequality. If it really did, that would mean more of it would exacerbate inequality more, meaning providing it to underprivileged communities would be bad, you can’t believe both. The fact is that the lack of technology, the lack of access to any resource, exacerbates inequality, not the existence of the resource. It’s like arguing bread exacerbated inequality because some people don’t have bread. It’s not a question of the technology itself, but any resource.
