Opening Arguments
Pro Opening - GracefulTornado678
As creators of entertainment media, we have a profound responsibility to portray real-life consequences accurately. Consider the emotional impact: viewers, especially impressionable ones, often emulate behaviors seen on screen. If media glamorizes harmful actions without showing real-world repercussions, it risks promoting these behaviors. Films, TV shows, and games shape societal norms and values. Portraying realistic consequences not only grounds narratives but also fosters a more conscientious and empathetic society. Ignoring this duty can lead to misinformation, desensitization, and a loss of personal accountability.
Neg Opening - FantasticStream471
How true, but I must argue does the entertainment provide the events leading up to the consequences accurately? In some instances of entertainment there is beautiful portrayal of the needs outweighing the costs. Where in that does the true justice really lie? Our world has been built on individuals and groups that regardless of the consequences still choose to do what they see as right. And that in turn truly brings out the good. Also one could say that often times the consequences are not portrayed accurately and misconstrued to depict a worse fate than what it would be if "not" violating the rules to get the consequences administered. And also what about the wrongly accused? Their consequences are hardly ever portrayed. Especially in entertainment.
Rebuttals
Pro Rebuttal - GracefulTornado678
While it's true that not all consequences are portrayed accurately, striving for realism overall is crucial. Even if some media may exaggerate, the intent should still emphasize accountability and ethics. Depictions of unjust consequences or the wrongly accused can create empathy and raise awareness about real-world injustices. Glossing over consequences entirely, though, runs the risk of normalizing harmful behavior. By portraying a spectrum of outcomes, media can offer nuanced perspectives while still underlining the importance of considering real-life impacts of our actions.
Neg Rebuttal - FantasticStream471
Wonderful, if you can get the media to portrayed actual realism. But this has never been the case. I wish it wasn't true but it is common knowledge that the media is under an agenda to reveal only approved truth.
